     Conflict Management - STRESS MANAGEMENT

WHAT IS STRESS?

It is the tension that one feels when one has to deal with a new, challenging, unpleasant or threatening situation.
It is an automatic physiological fight/flight response to perceived danger.  The tensing up of muscles, rising blood pressure and heart beat, and the increased adrenaline into the blood stream gives the person the energy needed to fight or flee.

FACT OF LIFE
There is good stress and bad stress.  A certain amount of stress is good and necessary for stimulating and inspiring us to work on overcoming life’s obstacles – but too much stress is harmful to one’s physical and emotional health.

Stress comes from our personal and social life, life stages, bio-physical problems, viruses in the environment and traumatic situations.

REDUCING HARMFUL STRESS
Constructive and honest self-management is the key to keeping harmful personal stress at a minimum.  Your physical, intellectual and emotional well being depends on it.

Working with a professional counsellor is particularly helpful if you want to resolve stress and to apply some of the stress management techniques available.
